BOARD ELECTION KEYA Public Radio held its Board of Director's election in December 1999. Re-elected to the Board were Ron Peltier and JoAnne Decoteau; new members are Lambert Azure, Kevin (KK) Keplin, Richard Turcotte, Norman McCloud and Marilyn Poitra. Officers were elected at a recent board meeting, with Ron Peltier named president; Richard Turcotte, vice president; and Marilyn Poitra, secretary. Also elected in December were the members of KEYA's Community Advisory Board. They are Tony Vandal, C.Joe Parisien, Warren Anderson and Les Thomas. These members will work with the station to ensure our programming is meeting the needs of out listening audience. We want to congratulate these people and thank them for their important service to KEYA Radio! ECEMBER MEMBERSHIP DRIVE As of April 1, just over 50% of the membership dollars pledged to KEYA during December's membership drive had actually been paid. The numbers show that 284 listeners pledged a total of $11,038 during the week long event; however, only $5,581 has been received. The results are disappointing and add to the financial difficulties now facing the station. KEYA's signal serves a population of over 20,000 people, and, according to recent surveys, the station reaches approximately 73% of its potential audience each month. In spite of those impressive numbers, our membership is very small - approximately 250 loyal people. LEAPIN' LISTENERS!! Because of KEYA's shaky financial situation, a special leap year emergency fund drive was held February through March 2. During this fund drive, 89 listeners called and/or stopped by the station with their help. A majority of these people were already supporting members of the station and made additional contributions. The results? A total of $2,970 was pledged, of which over $2,500 has already been paid. We appreciate the response of these loyal KEYA supporters, as well as the help we received from many area musicians. Lending their talents during this special event were: Tom Belgarde; Norman McCloud; C. Joe Parisien; Jimmy LaRocque; Kenny Roussin; Richard Keplin; Dennis Bercier; Dave Ripley; Terry Baker; Arden Enno; Carrie Cordoza; and our very own Music Man! In conjunction with the fund drive, the station also featured a special 50/50 blackout bingo which was played out on the radio. Winning $275 was Ken Parisien - congratulations! MAY THE 'VOICE BE WITH YOU' !! MAY 1 - MAY 5 The KEYA Spring Membership Drive 2000 was held - May 1 through May 5. These 5 days are of critical importance to the Voice of the Turtle Mountains and to the many listeners who value this station's services. Our day-to-day operations depend on membership dollars, and this important area of our annual funding needs to be improved. We invite you to call or stop by the station during our annual membership weeks, and to encourage a friend or relative to join you in support of KEYA. Successful membership drives will ensure that the Voice will be with you for many years to come! We look forward to hearing from you! SPORTS BOOSTERS The final whistle has sounded on another season of live sports broadcasts on KEYA. We want to thank Lance Azure and Richard McCloud for once again donating their time and talent to provide our listeners with excellent sports coverage from around our area. Land and Richard are volunteers and only receive expense money for their travel, lodging and food. We hope you'll pass along your appreciation for their fine work during the past year! We also want to thank the following members of our Sports Booster Club for providing their important financial support of KEYA's sports programming: BELCOURT
